Midland College uses SMS/text messaging as part of its official communications with
prospective students, current students, parents, guardians, alumni, and other stakeholders.
These messages are intended to support admissions, enrollment, student success, institutional
operations, and community engagement while protecting individual privacy.
SMS Program Description
Midland College SMS programs may include admissions updates, enrollment reminders, registration and advising notifications, financial aid information, student support communications, appointment or event reminders, academic alerts, and other college-related information.
Emergency notifications, such as severe weather warnings or campus safety alerts,
are not governed by this guidance. They are managed through Chap Alert, Midland College’s
official emergency communication system.
SMS Consent and Opt-In
By opting in to receive SMS messages from Midland College, you agree to receive recurring informational and/or operational text messages from Midland College. Message frequency may vary. Message and data rates may apply.
Consent to receive SMS messages is optional and is not a condition of enrollment, admission, application, or purchase.
Individuals may opt in by completing an information request form, creating an account, submitting a college form, updating communication preferences, or otherwise providing consent through an approved Midland College communication channel.
By enrolling in Midland College SMS communications, you represent that you are the
authorized user of the mobile number provided and consent to receive messages from
Midland College at that number.
Information We Collect and Use
If you opt in to receive SMS messages from Midland College, we may collect and maintain your mobile phone number, communication preferences, consent records, opt-in and opt-out records, message history, and message interaction data.
Midland College uses this information to provide requested communications, student
support, admissions information, enrollment updates, event reminders, financial aid
notifications, institutional updates, and other authorized college communications.
Data Protection and Privacy
Mobile information, SMS opt-in data, and consent records will not be shared, sold, rented, or disclosed to third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes.
SMS consent information will only be shared with service providers necessary to support the messaging program, such as messaging platforms, carriers, technical support providers, or customer service providers, and only for the purpose of operating Midland College SMS communications or as required by law.
All other use case categories exclude SMS opt-in data and consent information. This
information will not be disclosed to third parties except as necessary to support
the SMS program or as required by law.
Personally Identifiable Information
Midland College SMS communications must not include sensitive personally identifiable information such as Social Security numbers, financial account numbers, passwords, protected health information, or other confidential information.
If sensitive information must be shared, recipients will be directed to secure portals
or other FERPA-, HIPAA-, or institutionally approved channels.
Opt-Out and Help Instructions
You may opt out of SMS communications at any time by replying STOP to any text message from Midland College. After opting out, you will no longer receive SMS messages from that program unless you opt in again.

Carrier and Message Disclosures
Message and data rates may apply for messages sent to you from Midland College and messages sent from you to Midland College. Message frequency may vary.
Wireless carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. For questions

Modification or Termination of SMS Programs
Midland College reserves the right to modify, suspend, or terminate its SMS messaging
programs at any time without prior notice.
Legal Compliance
Midland College SMS communications must comply with applicable federal and state laws,
including the Telephone Consumer Protection Act, the Family Educational Rights and
Privacy Act, and Midland College operating policies.
