ArcGISWorkforce Continuing Education

This introductory course provides a clear, practical overview of geotechnologies, including Geographic Information Systems (GIS), GPS, and remote sensing. It is designed for professionals in government, nonprofit, academia, and private industry who want to build essential skills in spatial thinking and data‑driven decision‑making.

Participants will learn how GIS tools help analyze change over space and time and how maps can reveal patterns, relationships, and trends. Under the guidance of geographer and educator Dr. Joseph Kerski, the course includes hands‑on activities such as collecting field data, creating 2D and 3D maps, and working with spatial datasets at local and global scales.

Key topics include GIS fundamentals, data formats, projections, symbology, map communication, data quality, editing, field data collection, and measurement. Students will work with the ArcGIS platform—ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Pro, dashboards, Story Maps, Survey123, and Field Maps—with skills transferable to other GIS software.
