Small Classes & Friendly Faculty

Sul Ross State University is a small institution, where we pride ourselves on the personal interaction and support our faculty provide to their students. You can expect small classes similar to your experience at MC, with professors who are truly passionate about the subject matter being taught.

Sul Ross @ MC students also get the benefit of having the Sul Ross Transfer Specialists on the MC campus. They are here as a lifeline to help guide you through the transfer process and connect you to SRSU. They can answer questions concerning admissions, enrollment, advising, registration, policies and procedures and much more!

Saves You Money!

Since SRSU allows up to 90 hours to transfer from MC into your SRSU degree plan, you will be able to save money in tuition by taking most of your lower-level classes here at MC. Visit with your Sul Ross Transfer Specialist to see an unofficial outline of the degree you are seeking which outlines what classes from MC will transfer to SRSU.

Sul Ross State University and Midland College created a unique way for students to earn a bachelor’s and/or master's degree, right here in Midland. The Sul Ross @ MC Program offers students the opportunity to earn their degrees on the Midland College campus, while being a SRSU student! In several disciplines, students can continue directly into a SRSU master’s programs upon graduation, which can also be facilitated in Midland or fully online.

Participants in the program may transfer up to 90 credit hours of coursework from MC to SRSU that applies directly into your selected bachelor's degree plan. When complete with all bachelor's or master's degree requirements, the students participating in the Sul Ross @ MC program will be eligible to walk the stage in either the Fall or Spring Sul Ross State University graduation ceremony in Alpine TX.

Midland College Distance Education (DE) students learn remotely on the MC campus via interactive TV, virtual classrooms, or through web-based courses in the Sul Ross @ MC Program to complete remaining required coursework from SRSU.

  • Meet with one of the Sul Ross Transfer Specialist at MC.
    Fill out the Interested Form (above) or send an email to sulross&mc@sulross.edu to schedule an appointment.
  • GPA 2.5 or higher
  • Apply to Sul Ross State University through www.applytexas.org. Be sure to contact your Transfer Specialists before submitting your application to SRSU. They will help you submit it correctly and get your application fee waived.

Consortium Paperwork 

Students enrolled in both MC and SRSU in the same semester must complete verification paperwork called the Consortium Agreement. This paperwork allows SRSU Financial Aid office to confirm your enrollment at MC to accurately award your Financial Aid package.

Students need to submit a printed copy of their enrollment summaries from both institutions, as well as a detailed fee schedule from MC to the Consortium Specialist at MC, Jennifer Stahmer, jstahmer@midland.edu. This can be done either in person or by email.

This Consortium Agreement must be renewed every semester students are enrolled in both MC and SRSU classes before the first week of classes for the student's Financial Aid to be awarded without delay.

Scholarship Application

Am I eligible to become a Distance Education student?

If you are a Midland College student, or have attended Odessa College or Howard College, and are interested in seeking a bachelor's degree in one of programs currently offered on the MC campus and have the minimum requirements for acceptance to Sul Ross State University, you are eligible.

However, we strive to offer more opportunities for Midland students and are working to add more programs to this list. If your area of interest is not listed, contact your Transfer Specialist to see if it might be coming to MC.

How does the Distance Education program work?

Midland College students take Sul Ross's upper level (junior and senior) courses through either online (web or virtual classroom) or ITV formats allowing them to finish the hours required for a graduation with a Bachelor's Degree.

How do I get started?

Can I be enrolled at both Sul Ross and Midland College at the same time?

Yes. Sul Ross @ MC students will often be enrolled in both MC classes and SRSU classes in the same semester to maximize the number of transfer credits that can be applied to the student’s degree plan. To learn more, contact your Transfer Specialist.

What about financial aid, will I still qualify?

Students who meet the criteria to be eligible for Financial Aid will receive those funds from Sul Ross State University as the parent institution. Financial Aid will be handled through a Consortium Agreement at Midland College. To learn more, contact your Transfer Specialist.

Is there a fee to apply at Sul Ross?

Yes, however, Sul Ross @ MC student will have their application fee waived if you make your arrangements to transfer through your Transfer Specialist.

What school will I be graduating from?

We hope that while participating in this program and completing required coursework that you will meet the requirements to earn an Associates Degree from Midland College and ultimately your Bachelor’s Degree from Sul Ross State University. You will be eligible to walk the stage at both institution’s graduations once you have satisfied all degree requirements for each individual institution. I like to tell students participating in this program that you only have to take one trip to Alpine and that is to walk the stage for graduation!

Tell me a little more about Sul Ross State University.

Sul Ross State University’s main campus is located in the far West Texas region of Alpine, Texas and was established in June of 1920. In 2020, SRSU celebrated our 100th year since the very first students registered on the campus in Alpine. SRSU is proud to offer a combination of small class sizes, an appreciation of both fine arts and the sciences and popular professional programs in a relaxed, friendly environment.

The university, comprising of 647 acres in Alpine, Texas, boasts a beautiful 93-acre main campus of exquisitely-detailed buildings and enjoys perhaps the most temperate climate in the state. It is situated in the Davis Mountains and overlooks the center of the city below, yet it remains within easy reach of many local stores and restaurants. The university also has a 468-acre working ranch that serves its animal science programs.

The university has three additional physical campuses, serving the Middle Rio Grande Region in Del Rio, Uvalde, and Eagle Pass, and various Distance Education programs, including the Sul Ross @ MC program, which offer upper-level and graduate coursework.
