Midland College is hosting a special lecture today at 6 p.m. in the Cogdell Learning Center, featuring Dr. José Angel Hernández, a distinguished scholar and award-winning author. As part of the college’s celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, Dr. Hernández will explore the late nineteenth-century movement that relocated Tejano families back to Mexico, highlighting how this process of autocolonization differs from traditional settler colonization.

Dr. Jaime Águila, Midland College's Director of Community and Family Engagement, expressed enthusiasm for the event, stating, "We are fortunate to have Dr. José Angel Hernández speak at Midland College. His scholarship analyzes Mexican migration from a global perspective. He has received numerous accolades, including serving as a Fulbright US Scholar three times and winning the 'Captain Alonso de León Steel Medal for Historical Merit' in 2024 from the Nuevoleonesa Society of History, Geography, and Statistics."

This lecture aims to provide valuable insights into the historical and cultural narratives that shape the Mexican-American community today. Community members are encouraged to attend this informative event.
