Midland College Honors Veterans at 2024 Veterans Day CelebrationOn Nov. 9, Midland College, in conjunction with Mil2Civ, Permian Warrior Partnership, Midland Run Crew, and Workforce Solutions, hosted its annual Veterans Day Celebration, bringing together veterans, families, and community members to honor and celebrate the service of military personnel. The event featured inspiring speakers, moving tributes to those who have served in the United States Armed Forces, a 5K and fun run, and a job and resource fair for veterans in the Permian Basin. Dr. Jeff Struecker, celebrated Army Ranger Chaplain and decorated veteran of the Battle of Mogadishu, was the keynote speaker for the event. Dr. Struecker expressed his gratitude to the Midland community, saying, “I had the honor of joining Midland College for their special Veterans Day Celebration. I’m so grateful for the opportunity … Seeing our community come together in honor of our nation’s heroes was truly inspiring.” Daniel Ortega, Director of Veteran Services at Midland College, reflected on the significance of the event’s strong attendance, saying, “Seeing such a great turnout means so much to our veteran community. It shows our veterans that they are valued and appreciated, and it reinforces the bond between them and the community. This support is vital in helping veterans feel connected and empowered as they transition into new chapters of their lives.” Midland College President Dr. Damon Kennedy extended his appreciation to those in attendance and emphasized the college's commitment to veterans. “At Midland College, we are devoted to creating a supportive environment where veterans feel respected and encouraged to achieve their goals,” Dr. Kennedy said. “This Veterans Day Celebration is a reflection of our ongoing dedication to honoring the sacrifices of our servicemembers and aiding them on their educational paths.” This year’s event was made possible through the generous support of these community sponsors: Certarus, Cintas, Purity Oilfield Services, Roto Versal, SMCLR A Crane Company, Superod, Tactical Water Group, Down South Seafood, LLC, Carissa's Flowers & Events, Seven Brew Coffee, VFW Post 4149, Project 214, SilverTip Completion Services, and Warrior Ranch.
