Midland College has launched a new initiative for the fall 2024 semester offering GED graduates their first college course for free in an effort to foster educational and career advancement for GED graduates. The program is open to any resident in the college's service area who has completed a GED program through Midland College or another entity and not previously completed college coursework.

A key focus of Midland College's GED program is to increase enrollment in postsecondary education and training while supporting the completion of certificates and credit or transfer courses. By offering the first college course free, Midland College aims to reduce financial barriers and encourage more GED graduates to take the next step in their educational journey.

Deeksha Kadian, Midland College's Director of Adult Education and Literacy, has witnessed firsthand the remarkable success of MC's GED graduates who continue their education after completing the Texas Certificate of High School Equivalency (TxCHSE). "This initiative is not just about providing free tuition; it's about investing in the future of our community," said Kadian "We believe that by supporting GED graduates in their transition to college, we can help them achieve their academic and career goals, ultimately contributing to the economic development of our region."

GED graduates interested in taking advantage of this opportunity are encouraged to contact Abigail Phillips at (432) 685-4501 or email welcome@midland.edu for information on enrollment procedures and available courses.

Access is the first pillar of Midland College's strategic framework “Honor the Past, Reimagine the Future. This program amplifies the work of increasing our impact by recruiting and serving more students and community members in credit, continuing and adult education.
