MC art students participate in West Texas Food Bank’s annual “Empty Bowls” event January 27, 2021
Once again this year, MC art students created hand-made ceramic bowls for the West Texas Food Bank's Empty Bowls fundraiser, which will be sold for $15. The event will take place on Saturday, January 30, from 11:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m., when the bowls will displayed throughout the new West Texas Food Bank Innovative Gardens located at 1601 Westcliff Dr. in Midland. All proceeds from the sale of the bowls will go to the West Texas Food Bank. “I think this event is so important because it is a real-world way that artists can give back to the community,” MC Associate Professor of Art Michael Richardson said. “It helps people in the community who are really in need. Every one dollar raised provides four meals. The real spirit of the event is communal and community-based.” MC has participated in Empty Bowls for the last eight years. The event is part of a world-wide grassroots movement created by artists and craftspeople in cities and towns worldwide to care for and feed the hungry in their communities. “During the Empty Bowls event, people are able to see firsthand the art pieces and know that their purchase will go toward feeding those in need in our community” MC art student Jesse Trejo said. “I am proud to say that Midland College has been a very active participant in the Empty Bowls project for many years.” For more information about Empty Bowls, contact Craig Stoker at the West Texas Food Bank, (432) 580-6333 |
