Midland College announces the next installment of the Davidson Distinguished Lecture Series, featuring renowned physician, author, and Stanford University professor Dr. Abraham Verghese. This special event, “The Caring in Healthcare: Challenges and Opportunities in a Technological Era,” is free and open to the public and will take place on Tuesday, March 25 from 7-8 p.m. at the Al G. Langford Chaparral Center.

Dr. Verghese is a celebrated figure in the medical and literary world, known for his humanistic approach to healthcare. His contributions to medicine and literature have earned him widespread recognition, including the National Humanities Medal, awarded for his work in emphasizing the centrality of the patient in healthcare.

Beyond his medical career, Dr. Verghese is a New York Times bestselling author whose novel Cutting for Stone remained on the bestseller list for over two years, was translated into more than 20 languages, and is currently being adapted for film. His latest novel, The Covenant of Water (2023), debuted as a bestseller and captivated audiences worldwide. His memoirs, My Own Country and The Tennis Partner, have also received critical acclaim.

As a practicing physician and thought leader, Dr. Verghese has shaped modern discussions on the intersection of medicine and technology. His widely viewed TED Talk, “A Doctor’s Touch,” highlights the importance of human connection in healthcare. As co-host of the Medicine and the Machine podcast with Dr. Eric Topol, he continues to explore how technology and the human touch can coexist in advancing patient care.

The Davidson Distinguished Lecture Series invites the community to join this inspiring conversation. This event is free and open to the public, while preferred seating is reserved for 2025 members of Friends of the Series.
