The energy was high at the Midland ISD Crosstown Showdown, and for two students, the night ended with more than just school spirit. Brooklynn Dow and Carlos Pastrana Sanchez, both from Midland Legacy High School, each won a one-year scholarship to Midland College after beating the clock in the College and Career Connections (C3)-sponsored 3-Shot Challenge.

Brooklynn, who aspires to become a nurse, and Carlos, who plans to pursue a career in programming, will have their tuition and fees fully covered for one year at Midland College, beginning in the fall of 2025.

“It’s going to help me get what I’ve always wanted in life,” said Dow. “I want to be a nurse practitioner for pediatrics.” She plans to enroll in the nursing program at Midland College.

“When we started this scholarship, we wanted it to be more than just a prize — we wanted an investment in the futures of local students,” said Lori Haltom, Executive Director of C3. “And I think that’s exactly what we’ve done. We are thrilled to support Brooklynn and Carlos as they take this important step toward achieving their academic and career goals, and we can’t wait to see them on campus.”
