Stephen N. Castle, Midland College Board of Trustees, Place 5, announced his retirement
from the Board effective Dec. 17, 2024. Mr. Castle has served as a member of the
Board of Trustees since 2006.
Having arrived in Midland as a first grader, Castle has built a distinguished career
in the oil fields of West Texas and Southeast New Mexico. He has worked for Mobil,
Tom Brown Inc., and Hanley Petroleum Inc., chaired the Texas Independent Producers
& Royalty Owners Association, presided over the Permian Basin Petroleum Association,
and founded Cowboys Resources in 1998.
“Steve has been an integral member of the Midland College Board of Trustees,” MC President
Dr. Damon Kennedy said. “Throughout his tenure, Steve’s leadership, insight, and commitment
to our mission have greatly contributed to the success of Midland College. His dedication
to advancing higher education and supporting community initiatives has made a lasting
impact. I am truly grateful for Steve’s service and extend my heartfelt appreciation
for his contributions.”
During Castle’s time on the MC Board of Trustees, the College achieved several key
milestones, including its largest enrollment increase since 2011. This growth was
driven in part by the introduction of new programs in natural gas compression and
automation, expanded behavioral health and health science offerings, and the awarding
of over $1.3 million in scholarships in the Fall of 2024.
“The oil and gas industry in the Permian Basin is attracting a new generation of men
and women seeking rewarding career opportunities,” said Chair of the MC Board of Trustees
Steve Kiser. “It has been a privilege to work alongside a lifelong oil patch veteran
like Steve, whose insights and expertise have been invaluable to the Board of a college
that is dedicated to both supporting the success of the next generation and ensuring
the long-term growth and prosperity of the region.”
