Midland College and Consulado de Carrera de México partner to provide scholarshipsAugust 31, 2020

Midland College (MC) has once again entered into an agreement with the Consulado de Carrera de México to provide scholarships for the 2020-2021 academic year to Mexicans and individuals of Mexican origin who are working and/or studying in Midland.  The scholarships will enable qualified students to participate in educational programs that facilitate their individual development and, in turn, provide an educated, skilled workforce for the Permian Basin.

In July, MC officials received a letter from the Cónsul of México in Presidio, TX, inviting the college to apply for the scholarship grant.  The $12,000 grant is being awarded to Midland College in order to contribute in raising the educational levels of Mexicans and Mexican-Americans living in the community.  The grant is awarded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mexico and the Institute for Mexicans Abroad through the Consulate of México in Presidio, TX.

“We welcome the opportunity to work with the Mexican consulate to provide another means for our students to receive financial assistance for adult education, academic/transfer and workforce programs,” MC President Dr. Steve Thomas said.  “Scholarships will be awarded based not only on financial need, but also on demonstrated academic and technical competency.  This grant will enhance our mission of assisting with economic development in providing proficient, qualified employees for Permian Basin business and industry.”
