The Midland College Health Sciences Continuing Education department announces specialized classes to prepare West Texans for careers as pharmacy technicians and optical assistants.  Courses start soon; space is still available.

Students will be able to take courses for both programs online and virtually.  The pharmacy tech training will also involve some on-site lab training, which will be done at the Midland College Advanced Technology Center, 3200 W. Cuthbert.  All lab training will follow COVID-19 protocols for social distancing and sanitation.  Face masks are required.

“The COVID-19 pandemic and the decline in the energy industry has left many West Texans without jobs,” Kimberly Daw, Health Sciences Continuing Education advisor/coordinator, said.  “These programs are designed to offer accelerated training so that students can begin health careers before the end of the calendar year.”

Daw explained that the pharmacy technician classes begin on Tuesday, September 1, and run through December 10.  Students will be able to complete online coursework September through November, and then will participate in lab training November 30-December 10.

The optical assistant courses run September 8-November 12 and will be conducted via Zoom teleconferencing.

Registration and information are available on the Health Sciences Continuing Education web page or contact Kimberly Daw at (432) 681-6338.
