Midland College Hosts Successful Applied Technology Career FairApril 21, 2025
![]() Midland College welcomed industry leaders, students, and community members to its Applied Technology Career Fair on Thursday, April 17. Held at the Advanced Technology Center, the event brought together over 30 exhibitors and more than 200 students for a day of networking, exploration, and career-building opportunities. Representatives from regional and national companies spanning energy, manufacturing, transportation, construction, and more were on hand to speak directly with students enrolled in MC’s applied technology programs. These companies shared information about internships, apprenticeships, and full-time positions—helping students bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world industry experience. “The goal is to give our students direct access to well-known industry partners,” said Erick Gutierrez, MC Department Chair of Applied Technology. “Events like this are about more than just handing out résumés — it’s about making meaningful connections that can lead to long-term career success. We want our students to see themselves in these industries and feel confident about their futures.” The Career Fair was open to MC students in programs such as Automotive Technology, Welding, Energy Technology, HVAC, and Industrial Technology. Many students came prepared with résumés and questions, ready to take advantage of an opportunity that could shape their futures. Making industry connections early in a student’s educational journey is critical, especially in high-demand technical fields. These interactions not only allow students to understand the expectations of their chosen professions, but also give them a competitive edge as they begin navigating their career paths. For many, meeting employers face-to-face at a local level wouldn’t be possible without Midland College acting as the bridge. “This is exactly the kind of access that can change the trajectory of someone’s life,” said Gutierrez. “By building relationships now, students gain a clearer picture of what’s ahead and begin planting the seeds for long-term success in the workforce.” As the Permian Basin continues to grow and diversify, Midland College remains committed to preparing a skilled workforce that meets the region’s evolving needs. The Applied Technology Career Fair is just one of many ways the college connects students with career pathways and strengthens ties with the industries that power West Texas. |
