Midland College is proud to announce that two of our Dual Credit Health Science instructors were recently selected as Honor Teachers by two Top 10 Legacy High School students. Each of these top graduates were given the opportunity to select the standout teacher who has left a lasting impression on their life and helped them achieve their academic success.

The two Midland College instructors chosen for this award were:

Isabel Flores, Assistant Professor, Dual Credit Health Sciences
Flores was nominated by Ariana Blackwell, who wrote: “Ms. Flores has been one of my strongest supporters over the last two years as I have attained new milestones in my professional career. She has guided me every step of the way, even through moments of sadness and joy, and has helped me build the foundation for my future in healthcare. As one of my greatest role models, Ms. Flores has taught me courage, compassion, kindness, and strength, all of which I strive to master and carry with me throughout life.”

Ray Garcia, Department Chair, Dual Credit Health Sciences Instructor
Ray was nominated by Emma Lutsevich, who wrote: “Mr. Garcia is an incredible person and teacher, and I’m so blessed to have had him for two years of my school career. From the times in jeopardy, to the tears in memorizing endless meds, Mr. Garcia was there guiding us to become successful in learning the ins and outs of the medical field and simple life lessons (like not to speed on the road!). I’ll be forever impacted by the memories from my family in pharmacy along with knowing “pc” – meaning after meals not before meals!”

These nominations stand as a testament to the difference these instructors make in the lives of students. To acknowledge their individual excellence and elevate the noble profession of education as a whole, both instructors were honored at the LHS graduation ceremony and presented with a monetary gift and certificate from the Midland Education Foundation.

“We are very proud of our Top Ten students, and humbled that, out of all of the teachers in their 12-year education, they selected two from our Midland College team,” said Wendy Wood, Midland College Dean of Health Sciences Dual Credit and Continuing Education. “Isabel and Ray are very dedicated and caring to their students as they prepare them for industry certification exams, future college health studies, and a career in healthcare.”
