first-generation students, provides institutions with resources, expertise, and community
support to address the unique challenges faced by first-generation students. As part
of the new cohort, Midland College will have access to best practices, professional
development opportunities, and a national community of like-minded institutions working
towards the same goal.
"Being selected for the FirstGen Forward Network is a significant honor for Midland
College," said Joseph Granado, Vice President of Student Services. "This recognition
underscores our ongoing commitment to ensuring that first-generation students have
the resources, support, and opportunities they need to succeed in their academic pursuits
and beyond."
Midland College has implemented several initiatives aimed at supporting first-generation
students, including targeted advising, mentorship programs, and student clubs designed
to address the unique challenges these students may face. By joining the FirstGen
Forward Network, Midland College aims to further enhance these efforts and create
new pathways for student success.
"Our goal is to empower first-generation students by providing them with the tools
and support necessary to thrive in college and in their future careers," said Ida
Curiel, Associate Director-First Generation & Post-College Initiatives. "Through this
partnership, we are excited to continue developing innovative programs and initiatives
that will positively impact the lives of our students."
As a FirstGen Forward institution, Midland College will collaborate with other members
of the network to share insights and strategies for improving the academic outcomes
of first-generation students. This collaborative approach ensures that Midland College
remains at the forefront of efforts to support first-generation students and foster
a campus environment that is welcoming and inclusive for all.
