Tomas  HernandezDepartment Chair, Associate Professor, Biology

One of Hernandez’s college professors influenced his decision to major in biology. “He recognized my potential and offered an undergraduate research position and the rest, as they say, is history.” He enjoys the traditional classroom setting because he believes being in the same room, face-to-face with your students is important in getting to know them better and building a better student-professor relationship. He uses humor in the classroom, so students can see that professors are human and enjoy laughing as much as they do.

He is a homebrewer. He enjoys doing field research in herpetology, especially in remote areas of Mexico where he collects different species of snakes.
