The ability to harness and interpret data has become a game-changer for oil and gas companies looking to increase production, decrease costs, or decrease risks. Accurately and quickly interpreting large volumes of data enables operators to identify causes of downtime, well damage, equipment failures, and cost overruns. Analyzing historical trends puts employees and stakeholders in a position to make decisions rooted in data instead of relying on gut instinct or “what we’ve always done before.”

Power BI is Microsoft’s business intelligence (BI) tool, which has become a leading choice for organizations in all sectors to connect to data, analyze historical trends, and make predictions about the future. Trusted reviewers like the Gartner Magic Quadrant identify Power BI as a Leader in the space, and market share surveys indicate it holds a leading market share position within the Oil & Gas sector specifically.

BI tools use graphical interfaces to make complex analyses possible for a wide range of professionals. Microsoft has leveraged the market dominance of Excel and SQL Server to build a tool that looks familiar to spreadsheet users, but with far more capabilities.

Presented by Zack Warren and Andrea Switzer with Velocity Insight, this course will give students the information they need to start down that path, equipping them with the knowledge and tools needed to perform the kinds of analyses that produce clean, reliable, safe, and affordable energy.

Through interactive examples and hands-on exercises, participants will grasp both the theory and practical applications of SQL. Focused on Microsoft SQL Server, this course equips participants with electronic copies of the presentation, practice databases, and examples for continued learning and application beyond the classroom.
