Your Second Year of Legacy

Students qualifying for their second year of the Legacy Scholars Program have two pathways to consider. The chart below outlines the two tracks so you can decide if the Base Track or Academy Track is the best choice for you.

Eligibility

Complete your first year at Midland College in the Legacy Scholars Program with a 2.0 GPA each semester.

Complete 75% of the credits you attempted each semester.

Complete 40 hours community service at an approved agency (including participation in a group project) during your freshman year.

Successful completion of EDUC 1100 with a final grade of C or better during your freshman year.

Participate in the Legacy Scholars Academy, which includes weekly meetings through the school year and projects including, but not limited to, fundraising, hosting events for all Legacy students, philanthropy and transfer research and more.

Benefits

Scholarship to cover all tuition and course-related fees at Midland College. The Legacy Scholarship does not cover books and other supplies.

Eligible to apply for Herb L. Cartwright  Continuance Scholarships (Transfer scholarship monies up to $25,000 to a Texas public university).

 

 

Learn about nonprofit board service, donor relations and networking, fundraising, volunteering and leadership.

 

 

Interact with a network with of community leaders and board members from across the Midland area.

 

 

Build soft skills, resumes, and contacts.

Which do I choose?

Good for students who are in a workforce major who plan to go directly to work after graduating from MC.

Visit with the Legacy Director to determine the solution that best fits your needs.

Good for students who are planning on transferring to a Texas public university to finish a bachelor's degree.

Good for any student (regardless of transfer/career plans) who are particularly interested in philanthropy and nonprofit work.

How to Apply

Application Steps

  • Complete your first year at Midland College as a Legacy Scholar, meeting all eligibility requirements listed above including GPA, completion rate, etc.
  • Complete a FAFSA for upcoming school year.
  • Complete 40 hours of volunteer community service through the LEGACY VOLUNTEERS website
  • Complete a Legacy Scholars Program - SECOND YEAR APPLICATION

2023 Deadline for Returning Sophomores: July 1, 2023

Please note that the early decision deadline for freshmen (students who will be new to the Legacy Program) is May 31, 2023.
