The Legacy Fellows Program

Your Second Year of Legacy

The Legacy Fellows Program is available for those students who have completed their first year at Midland College as Legacy Scholars, and are ready to take their commitment to the next level.

When you apply for your second year of Legacy, you have the option of:

  1. Repeating the Legacy Scholars Program OR
  2. Apply for your second year of Legacy

How are they different?

If you are completing your first year in The Legacy Scholars Program, you may apply for a second year of Legacy. There are two tracks and you must determine which one would benefit you most.

As part of a team, you will plan and execute a fundraising event to benefit an identified need.
Benefits

All tuition and academic fees paid.

Success Coach will continue to be there to help you through this year.

You will learn about nonprofit board service, event planning, fundraising, networking, and serving on a board.

You will network with board members from across the Midland area, and will have opportunities to interact with potential future employers.

Students who complete their second year at MC as a Legacy Fellow will be eligible to apply for a Continuance Scholarship – potentially paying for your next two years of college, beyond MC.

Which do I choose?

If you do not wish to apply for a Continuance Scholarship, or are not planning on transferring to a four-year college in Texas, and you do not wish to engage with nonprofits or participate in fundraising events, you should choose to repeat the Legacy Scholars Program for your second year at MC.

If you are planning on transferring to a four-year institution in Texas, and would like to apply for a Continuance Scholarship, and if you wish to engage with nonprofits at a higher level and help with fundraising, then you should apply to the Legacy Fellows Program.

Common Questions

  • If I received Legacy for Fall last year, but lost Legacy for Spring, am I still eligible to apply for the Legacy Fellows Program?
You may apply for a Second Year of the Legacy Scholars Program, but you would NOT be eligible to apply for the Legacy Fellows Program. If you apply for the Legacy Fellows Program and then your Spring GPA ends up being below 2.0, your application for Year 2 will be changed to a Legacy Scholars Program application and you will be notified of this change.

  • What do I do if I have submitted the FAFSA but Midland College has no record of my FAFSA report?
It happens sometimes that there is an error on either the FAFSA or the ApplyTexas forms which is causing a delay in Midland College receiving the FAFSA. If you feel that this is the case, please contact a Financial Aid advisor. They can help you diagnose the problem so that we can move forward.
